MVC Release
ST. LOUIS- Kyle Landon and Shaye Harre of Southern Illinois have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. Landon and Harre were honored for their performances during the period of March 21- March 27.
Saluki junior jumper Kyle Landon carries a 3.72 grade point average as an accounting major, and won both the high jump and the long jump at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic on Saturday. Landon leaped 7.26m (23'-10") to win the long jump, and later cleared 2.20m (7'-02.50") in the high jump, tying his personal-best clearance outdoors. Landon's mark Saturday in the high jump is the fourth-best in the NCAA this outdoor season, and the Chester, Ill. native is tied for third in the NCAA West Region.
Junior Shaye Harre was dominant in SIU's 4-0 week, hitting .500 with a 1.300 slugging percentage. She went 5-for-10 with two doubles, two home runs, three RBIs and four runs scored while playing perfect defense. Her three walks gave her a .615 on-base percentage for the week. Her home runs were especially impressive—she hit one directly against a 40-mph wind and another one over the scoreboard.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
