ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois University's Kemar Jones has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Jones earned the weekly honor by winning the 110-meter hurdles in 13.86 at the Billy Hayes Invitational. His time was a personal best in the event, and marks the third best time this season in the MVC. It also assures the senior hurdler a spot in the NCAA West Regional meet, as his time is the 13th-fastest in the west region. The St. Phillip, Barbados native also passed Emmanuel Daux to move into sixth on SIU's all-time list.
The Salukis are set to compete at the 2016 MVC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Indiana State, beginning Thursday. Southern's men, the defending MVC Men's Outdoor Champions, were picked to finish second in the MVC's pre-championship poll, while the SIU women were chosen to finish third. Coverage of the 2016 Championships will be available on The Valley on ESPN3.
