CARBONDALE, Ill. - Complete men's and women's entry listings for the NCAA Outdoor Championships were released on Thursday (May 19) afternoon, with the Southern Illinois University track and field program combining for 15 entries across 14 events for next weekend's (May 26-28) West Preliminary meet.
The top-48 individual and top-24 relay declarations within the East Region and West Region earned berths to their respective preliminary meet.
The top-12 individuals and 12 relays from each regional competition will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., slated for June 8-11.
SIU's men boast eight entries, while the women own seven entries.
Of those eight men's entries, four are ranked in the top-15 within the West, including Josh Freeman's third-place ranking in the shot put with a toss of 65'-4.25" (19.92m). The women carry a pair of top-15 times and marks into regional competition, headlined by the collegiate-leading hammer thrower, DeAnna Price. Price is looking to become the third Saluki to repeat as national champion, and the first since 2008 when Brittany Riley won her second-straight NCAA Indoor title in the weight throw.
Three Salukis qualified in multiple events, led by Kyle Landon. Landon, who has the fifth-best clearance in the West in the high jump, will also compete in the long jump after leaping 25'-2.5" (7.68m) at the Tom Botts Invitational on April 15. Freeman will throw both the shot and the discus, while Kemar Jones will run the 110-meter hurdles and compete in the high jump. Jones cleared his qualifying mark of 6'-11" (2.11m) in the high jump at the Billy Hayes Invitational on May 6 despite it being the first time he jumped at a meet since April 2014.
Competition at the West Preliminary, hosted by the University of Kansas in Lawrence, will begin at 12 p.m. CT on Thursday (May 26) and Friday (May 27). The third and final day will begin at 3:00 p.m. CT on Saturday (May 28). Ticketing and spectator information can be found at the links provided below.
