Revised Meet Schedule
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Heavy rains, high winds and lightning forced the suspension of competition Thursday at the NCAA Track and Field West Preliminary Round at Rock Chalk Park.
Three separate weather delays, each lasting more than an hour, wrecked havoc with the day's schedule. Play was ultimately suspended at approximately 7:55 p.m. CST.
Men's hammer and women's javelin were the only two events contested Thursday. Bradley Sauer is in flight three of the men's hammer and has not thrown yet.
The men's and women's pole vault, as well as the men's and women's high jump, will be contested indoors at Anschutz Sports Pavilion. Also, all running events will be ran as a quarterfinal. In the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and hurdles, the heat winner and the next six fastest times will advance. With the 1,500m, the top-two finishers will advance along with the next four fastest times.
The women's 10,000-meter race will open competition on Friday beginning at 8 a.m., with the men's 10k to follow at 8:40 a.m. Sauer will throw the hammer at 9 a.m. tomorrow, while Franklin Adams and Kyle Landon are set to long jump at 9 a.m.
15 Salukis qualified for the 2016 NCAA West Prelim, which is slated to go through Saturday. The top-12 individual competitors and top-12 relay teams from both the East and West Prelims qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 8-11.
