Landon Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University high jumper Kyle Landon has been named to the 2015-16 All-Academic District 5 Men's Cross Country/Track & Field Team presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Landon, a junior from Chester, Ill., is an Accounting major and has a 3.76 cumulative grade point average. He won the MVC men's high jump championship for the third-straight season, and including indoors has won six-straight MVC high jump titles. The three-time All-American was also named the MVC Most Outstanding Men's Field Athlete at both the indoor and outdoor conference meets.
This season, Landon high jumped a lifetime-best height of 7-feet, 4.5 inches (2.25m) which is fourth-best in SIU's all-time records and outdoors cleared 7-feet, 3.25 inches (2.22m), which is tied for the fifth-best clearance in the West Region. He has won ten of 11 meets he's jumped in this season.
The 2015-16 Academic All‐District ® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All‐District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. SIU is a member of District 5, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
Landon was one of 10 men selected, and one of three from the Missouri Valley Conference, as First team Academic All-District 5 honorees, all of whom advance to the Academic All-America Team National ballot, where first, second and third team selections will be announced next month.
Landon will join 14 other Salukis in competing this weekend at the NCAA West Region Preliminary Rounds in Lawrence, Kansas. Landon will long jump today at 3:30 p.m. before high jumping Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
