TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Southern Illinois' season came to an end on Friday, as the Salukis (31-25-1) lost to Evansville, 3-2, at Bob Warn Field.

"I thought that our effort was great, we just couldn't get anything going on offense," head coach Ken Henderson said. "I thought we played pretty well today. We took some good swings and hit some balls right at them, but we just could not get anything to drop."

Logan Blackfan put the Salukis in front 1-0 in the fourth inning, hitting a solo home run that went over the centerfield wall. Southern's lead last only one inning, as the Purple Aces (29-26) hit a three-run home run in the fifth for a 3-1 advantage. SIU continued to battle throughout the game and started the ninth still down by two. Hunter Anderson entered the game as a pinch-hitter and made an immediate impact, blasting a solo home run to lead-off the inning. The rally ultimately fell short, as UE got the next three batters out to end the game.

The Saluki offense finished the day with five hits, with all five hits coming from a different SIU batter. Joey Marciano pitched six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Mitch Townsend entered the game in the seventh and gave SIU two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The loss concludes the 2016 season for the Salukis, which saw the team win their most games since 2012. The 31 wins was a 19-win improvement from last season.

"I am so proud of our guys and what they did this season," Henderson said. "They played their rear ends off and we made huge strides. They should be proud about what they accomplished."
