Kyle Landon named CoSIDA Academic All-American

Junior high jumper is just the second in program history to earn back-to-back Academic All-America honors.

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University junior jumper Kyle Landon was honored with a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team, it was announced today. The Chester, Ill., native recently earned his fourth All-America honors and now adds a second Academic All-America honor to his trophy case.
After earning CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team honors in 2015, the six-time defending Missouri Valley Conference high jump champion becomes the first Saluki since 1985 to earn back-to-back Academic All-America laurels. He becomes the 12th Academic All-American in SIU track and field history, and the 90th Academic All-American in school history. SIU's 90 Academic All-Americans are the most of any Missouri Valley Conference school.
Not just a star on the track, Landon has been a terrific student while at Southern. He maintains a 3.76 GPA as an accounting major and was named the MVC's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week three times this season. He has also earned a spot on the MVC's Scholar-Athlete team in each of his two seasons eligible.
Landon was honored as the MVC Most Outstanding Male Field Athlete at both the 2016 MVC Indoor and Outdoor Championships, and joins fellow high jumper Neophytos Kalogerou as the only Saluki men to win multiple CoSIDAAcademic All-America honors.
