Football holds annual year-end banquet

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois football program held its annual year-end banquet on Saturday. Chase Allen was named the Tony Bleyer Team MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Toughest Saluki. Israel Lamprakes as named the Offensive Player of the Year and earned the Harry Bobbitt Spirit Award.Â

Sam Straub was named the team's Most Improved Player, and D.J. Davis was named the Special Teams Top Dawg. ZeVeyon Furcron was named the Defensive Scout of the Year and Deionte Gaines was named the Offensive Scout of the Year.

Chase Allen ended his illustrious SIU career with the 12th-most tackles in program history. He is only the second player in program history to lead the team in tackles three straight seasons. Israel Lamprakes was the team's leading receiver with 617 yards as a sixth-year senior. Lamprakes ended his career with the most productive two-game stretch for any wide receiver in SIU history (18 receptions for 359 yards).

Sam Straub started the final three games of the season and threw for 1,155 yards in just three games, including a school-record 450 yards in a win over nationally-ranked Western Illinois. D.J. Davis was one of the most dynamic return men in the nation, leading the MVFC in kick return average and setting a Saluki Stadium record with his 98-yard kick return touchdown vs. Murray State.
