The Saluki Women's Golf Team finished tied for first with Butler University at the Charles Braun Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The two-day tournament was reduced to one round due to weather on Monday.
Â
This is the third win for the Salukis this season, and the 20th overall win for Head Coach Alexis O'Brien. Southern has already matched its win total from the 2016-17 season and the team's three wins in the fall season are the most since the 2000-01 season.
Â
Southern ended the tournament with an overall score of 311 with four of the Dawgs placing in the top 10.
Â
The Salukis defeated the three Missouri Valley Conference teams at the tournament. SIU defeated Valparaiso by 25 strokes and the University of Evansville by 27. Indiana State finished third, one stroke behind the Salukis.
Â
"Only playing one round is tough," O'Brien said. "It's all or nothing and the conditions were tough today. We grinded it out and it wasn't pretty, but it's a win."
Â
Senior Alice Ho was the lowest scoring Saluki and finished tied for second with Thilda Staubo from Indiana State and Lillian Young from Northern Kentucky. It was her best career finish. Ho shot four-over par 76 and was only one stroke behind Rachel Gathof from Butler, the tournament champion. Freshman Emilyee McGiles finished tied for fifth, one stroke off Ho.
Â
Sophomore Lili Klekner-Alt and freshman Rosemarie Bundy ended tied for eighth at six over par 78. Bundy made her line-up debut as an individual for the Salukis on Tuesday.
Â
"I am so proud of Rose for finishing tied for eighth in her line-up debut," O'Brien said. "She can really play tournament golf and is the type of player who plays better in tournaments than qualifying."
Â
The Charles Braun Intercollegiate concluded the fall season for SIU. The Salukis will be back on the green for the spring season in February.
