Jacob Marnin earns Academic All-District honor

Southern Illinois offensive lineman Jacob Marnin was named to the 2017 Academic All-District 5 team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today. Marnin is now eligible for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced in early December.
Marnin has started eight games for the Salukis this year. Southern leads the MVFC in fewest sacks allowed while scoring nearly 30 points per game. Marnin, a sophomore, has started already 19 career games. He earned a spot on the MVFC Academic Honor Roll as a true freshman in 2015 and was honored with the MVFC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award last year. He was one of five offensive linemen to earn the honor in District 5, which is comprised of all Division I football programs in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.Â
Saluki Football players have earned 20 Academic All-District honors in the last 10 seasons. Marnin holds a 4.0 GPA in criminology and criminal justice.Â
