Registration is open for this year's 2017 Winter Hitting Academy. The academy, which is hosted by Saluki softball associate head coach Jen Sewell and members of the SIU softball team, focuses on advanced hitting concepts.

The 2017 Winter Hitting Academy is open to grades seven through 12 and will help hitters by addressing common flaws, explosive mechanics, advanced hitting movement patterns and more. Participating hitters will have the opportunity to work with Sewell as well as members of the defending Missouri Valley Conference Champion Salukis. There are four sessions, the first one is Monday, Nov. 27, the second is Tuesday, Dec. 5 the third is on Monday, Dec. 11 and the final Academy is on Monday Dec. 18. All sessions will be held at the Garden Grove Event Center in Carbondale, Illinois. There are two sessions each day, the first starts at 6:15 p.m. and the second begins at 7:30 p.m.

Slots for the Academy will fill quickly. There will be eight to 12 participants per session to ensure a more focused instruction in a small group setting. Openings are filled on a first come first serve basis. The cost of the academy is $120. Participants must provide their own bat, helmet, batting gloves and tennis or turf shoes.
