Senior outside hitter Andrea Estrada and junior middle hitter Patience Brown were both named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team, the league announced Thursday.
For Estrada, it marks the third time in her career that she has earned All-MVC honors. She joins Taylor Pippen, Kristie Kemner and Jennifer Berwanger as the only Salukis to earn recognition from the conference in each of their four seasons (including All-Freshman Team selections). Brown, meanwhile, earned the first All-MVC recognition of her career after a junior campaign in which she finished sixth in the Valley in hitting percentage (.299) and tenth in blocks per set (.82/set).Â
Â
Estrada finished first on the team in kills (274), kills per set (2.54/set) and was second on the team in digs (327) and digs per set (4.11). She tallied 16 10-plus kill performances, including a season-best 20 kills in a five-set match against Illinois State on Oct. 20. She recorded 12 double-doubles this season, and finished with double figure digs in 16 of SIU's 29 matches this past season. The Bogota, Colombia native ends her remarkable career ranked in SIU's top-five for double-doubles (3rd; 57), digs (4th; 1,382) and kills (5th; 1,385).Â
Brown, who transferred from the University of Akron after her sophomore season, led the Salukis in blocks and finished second on the team in kills per set (2.09/set). The Bloomington, Ill. native put down 10-plus kills in four matches, all of which were SIU wins, including a season-best 16 kills in SIU's 3-1 win at Indiana State on Oct. 27. She recorded at least one block in 28 of SIU's 29 matches, with a  season-high eight coming in a 3-2 win at home over Evansville on Sept. 29. She also hit .300 or better in 13 matches this season and recorded an ace in eight matches.
