Women's Basketball hosts Western Kentucky on Sunday

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois women's basketball team returns to the SIU Arena Sunday, Dec. 10 to host the defending Conference USA champion Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., with the game being streamed live on ESPN3 and can be heard on WVZA 105.1 FM.
Scouting the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
The Hilltoppers, the defending Conference USA Champions, are 4-3 this season and have won three-straight games coming into Sunday's contest. The Hilltoppers three losses this season came by a combined 22 points, with an overtime loss at Iowa and a two-point loss at Indiana amongst the three losses. Western Kentucky has won two of the last three Conference USA titles and are led by sixth-year head coach Michelle Clark-Heard. Tasha Brown leads the Hilltoppers in scoring at 21.9 points per game, while Ivy Brown is averaging 14.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
All-time series vs. the Hilltoppers
The Hilltoppers lead the all-time series, 7-6, in a series that dates back to 1980. Western Kentucky won the most recent meeting between the two programs, an 88-71 win in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 23, 2007. Southern's last win in the series came on Dec. 9, 1989- a 53-52 win in Carbondale. SIU is 2-1 all-time versus WKU at home.
SIU versus Conference USA
This marks the third of three Conference USA opponents this season for the Salukis. SIU picked up its first win over a Conference USA opponent since 1996 with a 64-59 win over Marshall on Dec. 2. The Salukis are 9-21 all-time against Conference USA foes.
Cleaning the boards
Abby Brockmeyer tallied seven rebounds against Martin Methodist on Dec. 2, which marked the seventh time in eight career games that she has snagged at least six rebounds in a game. The Raymond, Ill. native also blocked two shots against the Redbirds, which marked the sixth time she's recorded at least one block and the fourth time she's recorded multiple blocks in a game.
Top-20 nationally among freshmen
Abby Brockmeyer ranks in the top-25 nationally among freshmen in several statistical categories. Brockmeyer ranks 23rd nationally among freshmen in blocks per game (1.29) and 24th nationally among freshmen in rebounds per game (7.4). She leads all Valley freshmen in rebounds per game and is second to Evansville's Kaylan Coffman (1.83/game) in blocks per game.
Career Three-Pointers
Kylie Giebelhausen is shooting 37.7% from three-point range this season and has now made 209 career three-pointers. Giebelhausen ranks 21st in the NCAA among active players for career three-pointers and is on the verge of cracking the top-25 in Missouri Valley Conference history. The East Peoria, Ill. native is two treys shy of passing Bradley's Katie Yohn (2009-13) for 25th.

Kylie Giebelhausen can pass Ann Kattreh (1983-87) for 24th on SIU's all-time scoring list with 12 points. Giebelhausen has scored 1,049 career points.
Win over a Conference USA opponent
The Salukis held on for a 64-59 win at Marshall on Dec. 2. It was the program's first win over the Thundering Herd since 1993 and it also marked Southern's first victory over a Conference USA opponent since 1996.
Slight of Hand
Kylie Giebelhausen recorded a career-high seven steals in the win over the Thundering Herd, the most steals in a game by a Saluki since Cartaesha Macklin also nabbed seven steals against Evansville on Feb. 9, 2013. In doing so, she eclipsed the century mark for career steals and became the first player in program history with 1,000 points, 100 blocks and 100 steals.
Staying on the floor
Kylie Giebelhausen leads the MVC and ranks 12th nationally in minutes played per game (38.1/game). The Preseason All-MVC selection set a career-high by playing 44 minutes in SIU's overtime win over SEMO on Nov. 22, and currently ranks sixth in program history with 3,262 minutes played.
100th-straight start
Giebelhausen started her 100th straight game against Martin Methodist. She has started every game since the third game of her freshman season, SIU's 82-75 win over Memphis on Nov. 26, 2014.
Catch and shoot
The Salukis set season-bests in three-point FG percentage and three-pointers made against Morehead State, as SIU made 52.2% (12-of-23) of its three-pointers. It's the second time this season that Southern has made at least half of its attempts and the best it has shot from downtown since making 70.6% (12-of-17) of its attempts at Indiana State on March 2, 2017. It's 12 three-pointers were also a season-high as six different Salukis made at least one three pointer.
Providing a spark
Ashley Hummel has been a spark off the bench in the post for the Salukis, and has appeared in all eight of SIU's games this season. With her two buckets against Martin Methodist, she has now scored more points (32) this season than in 22 appearances a year ago (25). Her 15 field goals this season are two shy of her career total heading into this season.
Second Career Double-Double
Nicole Martin scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in SIU's 64-59 win over Marshall, which was her first double-double of the season and the second of her career. It was the second-straight game in which she has snagged double-digit rebounds. She posted a team-best 16 points in the win over Martin Methodist, which marked the sixth time in eight games this season that Martin has scored in double figures. The Jefferson City, Mo. native reached double figures in six games during her freshman campaign and only once corralled double-digit rebounds.
Making the most of her opportunity
Rachel Pudlowski made her first career start at Marshall and made the most of her opportunity, as she set or tied her career-high in seven statistical categories including points (12), field goals made (5), three-pointers made (2) and minutes played (24).
Freshmen scoring in double figures
With Rachel Pudlowski's 12 points against Marshall, she became the third Saluki freshmen to score in double figures this season. It's the second-straight season in which the Salukis have had three different freshmen score in double figures, and the 10th season since 1983 that Southern has had at least three first-years score 10-plus points in a game in the same season. During the 2010-11 and the 1999-00 seasons the Salukis had five different freshmen score in double figures- which are tied for the most in a single season in program history.
First off the bench
Makenzie Silvey has been the first off the bench for the Salukis in each of the past two games and has set or tied a career-best in each game. In SIU's win over Marshall, Silvey dished out a career-best six assists, and she followed by snagging a career-high five boards against Martin Methodist on Dec. 7.

In SIU's win over Marshall, Silvey dished out a career-best six assists, and she followed by snagging a career-high five boards against Martin Methodist on Dec. 7.
