Men's Golf competing at Florida State Seminole Intercollegiate
03/10/2017 | 9:37:00 | Men's Golf
The Saluki men's golf team returns to action this week to compete in the 41st-annual Seminole Intercollegiate, hosted by Florida State. The three-day tournament begins today and features 18 holes of competition per day at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Florida.Â
The 14-team field includes six teams ranked in the Golfstat Top 100 — Georgia Tech (24), Florida State (31), Jacksonville (32), Penn State (54), James Madison (57) and Troy (88). Five teams have already won a tournament title this season, including SIU, which is ranked No. 184 by Golfstat.
"If we can relax and focus only on the things that we can control, then I am looking forward to a great weekend," said SIU head coach Justin Fetcho. Â "We have been putting in some really good work this spring and I believe we learned a lot about ourselves at our last event down in Louisiana. Â Physically, we did a lot of really good things down there, but at times we had some mental lapses, so if we can stay focused, committed and strong-minded for all 54 holes, we can compete with anyone. Â We want to pride ourselves on being the mentally toughest team in the field and if we can accomplish that, then the results will take care of itself."
The Salukis' five-man team features Brandon Carlson, Peyton Wilhoit, Sam Meek, Luke Gannon and Matt Greenfield. Playing as individuals will be Frankie Thomas and Dirk Kuehler.
