Men's Golf in 8th place after Day One at Seminole Intercollegiate

The Southern Illinois men's golf team stands in eighth place at 4-under par after the first round of competition on Friday at the Seminole Intercollegiate, hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida.
In a 14-team field that features six teams ranked in the Golfstat Top 100, the  Salukis trail tournament leader Penn State (-15) by just 11 strokes. They are within striking distance of the top five, trailing No. 31-ranked Jacksonville (-7) by three strokes.
SIU's Matt Greenfield (-3) is tied for 11th place overall after he birdied five holes to go with just two bogeys. Teammate Peyton Wilhot (-1) is also below par with three birdies and two bogeys.Â
Surprisingly, Southern's top golfer so far will not even count toward the five-man team score. Freshman Frankie Thomas (-4) is competing as an individual and is tied for eight place overall. He birdied the final four holes of the front nine and is just two strokes behind the tournament leaders.
Round Two at the 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Course starts on Saturday morning, with the final round on Sunday.
