For the second time this season, the Southern Illinois men's tennis team beat Austin Peay State, defeating the Governors, 4-0 on Saturday to sweep the season series. Southern improved its record to 9-2 on the season.
The Salukis won the doubles point after defeating APSU in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The players at No. 2 doubles did not finish their match.
Going into singles play, Piotr Baranski, Wilder Pimentel, and Alex Pozo won their matches in No.1, No.2 and No. 4 singles. Michal Kianicka, Daniel Martinez and Param Pun in No.3, No. 5 and No.6 singles did not finish their matches.
"I was happy with both the result and the performance today," Coach Jonny Rigby said. "We showed a lot of fire from the first point and it carried over all the way through to the end of singles. It
prepared us well for the match tomorrow."
On Sunday, the Salukis travel to Hunstville, Alabama to take on Alabama A&M. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
