The Southern Illinois men's tennis team will play its final home match on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Wichita State. The marketing office will provide free coffee and donuts.Â
The Salukis and the Shockers were 2016 Co-MVC regular season champions, however SIU is 14-35 in the all-time series against the Shockers. The last time Southern defeated Wichita was in 2009.
Going into the match, the Salukis (14-2) know they're the underdogs. They are ranked No. 81 nationally while the Shockers (11-9) are ranked No. 68 in the nation.Â
Individually, Piotr Baranski is ranked nationally in singles and in doubles with Alex Pozo, and Wilder Pimentel has won 14 singles matches in a row in either the No. 1 and No.2 spot.
"We shouldn't underestimate how big of an achievement it is for Willy to win 14 in a row," Rigby said. "He has become much more confident on the court this year and his results have really reflected that."
 Â
Along with Saturday being the final home match, the Salukis will be celebrating their Senior day as well.Â
"I think the guys responded perfectly to finding out that this season was going to be our last," Rigby said "They have had an incredible season so far and I expect another highly competitive match this weekend. Wichita is a great team, but if we perform as well as we have been doing then we are going to give ourselves chances to win."
