NOTES + WEEKEND RECAP
The Southern Illinois Salukis were able to grab one win on the road against Northern Iowa this weekend, moving their Missouri Valley Conference record to 8-4. The team struggled offensively the first two games of the season, but bounced back in a big way in game three, scoring seven runs in the contest. SIU was lead by their seniors and freshman class. The two classes combined for 100% of the runs scored and 67% of the runs driven in.Â
Despite their offensive struggles most of the weekend, the maroon and white still had five players finish the series with on base percentages of .300 or higher. The reason being is the team got on base in anyway possible. Southern drew 12 walks and were hit four times by a pitch in the three game stretch, two categories they are in the top five in.Â
This weekend's win was the first victory the Salukis have had at Northern Iowa since 2011. The previous two trips the team had made to Cedar Falls, Iowa were winless, being swept both times. This season the Salukis don't have a losing record at home or on the road in the valley.Â
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
SEMO enters tomorrow's contest 2-8 in their last ten games. At home the Redhawks are 2-4 this season, going 2-2 during their current home stand. SEMO is led by their hitting, as they currently have five players sporting a batting average over .300. This season they are outscoring their opponents 166-137, which is only three runs off SIU's mark of 169. The Redhawks have 85 extra base hits this season, accounting for 30% of all their hits.Â
On the mound SEMO has three pitchers that have all thrown more than 40 innings this year. Leading the pack is Madeline Krumrey, who has a 10-6 record and an ERA of 2.43. As a team, the Redhawks are holding opposing batters to a .272 batting average.
