EVANSVILLE, IND. - The Southern Illinois University heads to Evansville for a midweek Missouri Valley Conference matchup with the Purple Aces. Both teams enter the doubleheader with a 9-6 conference record.
SIU has now been on the road for the last 11 games. In that stretch the Salukis are 6-5, never losing three games in a row. Southern has won at least one game against every conference opponent this season, including a sweep against Drake the second week of the season.Â
Southern was led by their pitching over the weekend, having two pitchers have an ERA of zero. As a whole staff the Salukis had an ERA of .81 and only gave up 14 hits. Brianna Jones, Savanna Dover, and Nicole Doyle all held batters to a batting average under .185 and gave up one or zero extra base hits. Doyle and Jones both racked up ten plus strikeouts and picked a win each. Jones also picked up her third shutout victory of the season, tying her for most on the team with Dover, who also has three.
Shaye Harre continues to climb up in the SIU record books, now in the top ten in four different categories. Harre is currently No. 2 all-time in both doubles and runs batted in for SIU. Her 141 RBIs is only six away from the No. 1 spot. The Salukie senior is also No. 4 in home runs, belting 28 in her career. Lastly, she is also top ten all-time in career batting average. Currently she sports a .329 career average, which is No. 8 in Saluki history. Not only is she climbing in the career record books, but also in the single season record books. As of now she is No. 2 in walks, having drawn 44 base on balls this season. It is only one away from the top spot of 45. This is now the second consecutive season Harre has cracked the top ten in this category.

Evansville enters the contest with Southern Illinois with a 9-6 conference record, and a 18-23 overall record. The Purple Aces are coming off a 2-1 weekend with Missouri State in Springfield, Mo., winning the last two games. Evansville has now won five of the last six conference games. The team is led by their hitting, with six players batting .280 or better.Â
