The five-time All-American won the high jump and set personal-bests in both the long and triple jumps at the Kansas Relays.
Saluki senior jumper Kyle Landon has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Landon won the high jump and recorded lifetime-bests in both long jump and the triple jump at the Kansas Relays over the weekend.Â
The Chester, Ill. native won the high jump for the fourth-straight meet with a clearance of 7'-1.50" (2.17m). He followed with a personal-best effort in the long jump after he cleared 25'-0.50 " (7.63m), the 15th-best mark in the NCAA West Region, to take second. The five-time All-American concluded his day by finishing second in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 51'-1.50" (15.58m). In doing so, it gave him his third top-20 regional mark, as he now ranks 19th in the triple jump in the NCAA West Region in addition to holding at No. 3 on the NCAA West Region high jump performance list. He is the only athlete, male or female, to currently rank in the top-20 of all three jumps in either region.
It marks the 11th time that Landon has been named the MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Southern has now won all five MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors since opening the 2017 outdoor season on March 25.
The Salukis are next in action at the Lenny Lyles Invite, hosted by the University of Louisville. The two-day meet begins with the men's and women's hammer throw on Friday, April 28.
