Saluki Baseball adds Mason Hiser for 2018

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois baseball team signed right-handed pitcher Mason Hiser to a National Letter of Intent for the 2018 season. Hiser, from Barton Community College, will be a junior in 2018.

"Mason is a huge get for us," SIU head coach Ken Henderson said. "He has the stuff and the mentality to come in and be a weekend starter. He is a lot like current Saluki Chad Whitmer in that he has outstanding command, really competes on the mound and knows how to pitch."

Hiser, originally from Augusta, Kan., is 7-2 in 12 starts this season for Barton. He has a 61-8 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Seven times this season, Hiser has gone at least seven innings with two or fewer runs allowed. He was named the KJCCC Division I Co-Pitcher of the Week after allowing just three hits in a complete-game 8-1 win over Rose State in February.

Hiser has led Barton to a No. 18 national ranking and the program's most wins since 2002. At Augusta High School, Hiser was an All-Metro pick by the Wichita Eagle and a two-time Coaches Association All-State honoree.
