Ryan Sabo earns Academic All-District honor

Southern Illinois infielder Ryan Sabo earned a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team, the organization announced Thursday. Sabo holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in finance.

Sabo has started 132 games for the Salukis over the last four years, including a career-high 40 this season. He has career highs with six doubles, a triple, two home runs, 18 walks and nine RBIs this year. Sabo's .358 on-base percentage is fourth on the team. He was one of only 11 honorees among all districts in Division I with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Sabo is the seventh Saluki to earn Academic All-District honors since 2003. The last SIU player to earn the award was Austin Montgomery in 2012. Sabo earned one of four infield spots on the District V Academic All-District Team. District V is comprised of all Division I universities in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Sabo is now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be announced on June 2.
