SIU Track and Field to host Throws Clinic

Clinic set for July 8-9 at the Lew Hartzog T&F Complex.
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University track and field program will host the SIU Throws Clinic on July 8-9. The camp is open to athletes ages 12-18 who are hoping to learn from some of the best throwers in the region.
The clinic will run from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex. Campers can choose to sign up for one day or two, with a discount offered to athletes who choose to sign up for both days.
All campers will receive instruction from SIU throws coach J.C. Lambert as well as several former and current SIU throwers, including 2016 Olympian DeAnna Price and professional shot putter Josh Freeman. Lambert was a five-time All-American thrower at Southern before taking over as the throws coach prior to the 2015-16 season. The Harrisburg, Ill. native has coached six All-Americans, a NCAA Champion, an Olympian and 11 conference champions in his two seasons at the helm of SIU's storied throws program.
Price, a two-time NCAA Champion in the hammer throw, currently has the second-best hammer throw mark in the United States, and sixth-best in the world, at 244'-1" (74.40m). Freeman, meanwhile, has the sixth-best shot put toss in the United States at 68'-7.25" (20.91m) and recently finished sixth in the shot at the 2017 Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica.Â
All interested participants should be prepared to fill out a medical release form, found here. An online registration form is available here, while parents can also register via phone at 618-536-7751 or by faxing the camp registration form with credit card payment information to 618-453-5680.
