Three Salukis set for IAAF World Championships

Hazel, Price and Berry will compete for a chance to become a World Champion.
Three athletes with Southern Illinois University ties will compete at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, England Aug. 4-13 at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - the site of the 2012 Olympic Games. Warren Hazel, DeAnna Price and Gwen Berry will represent their countries competing for a chance to become a World Champion.
Hazel, a two-time MVC Champion, enters the meet with a season and personal-best 400m time of 45.68, set at the Blue Marlin Track Classic in Nassau, Bahamas on July 22. He will run in the third heat of the 400m, in lane one, at 5:03 a.m. CST.
Berry, a 2011 SIU alumna, will throw the hammer at 4:35 a.m. CST in qualifying group A. She qualified for the meet after she threw 251'-10" (76.77m) at the Ole Miss Classic on May 6. Price will follow in group B, which is set to begin at 6:05 a.m. CST. The two-time NCAA Champion qualified for the IAAF meet after she threw 244'-1" (74.40m) at the Tucson Elite Classic on May 20. The automatic qualifying mark for the event is set at 71.50m, with at least the 12 best performers advancing to the final round on Monday, Aug. 7.
