DeAnna Price advances to hammer throw finals at IAAF World Championships

Price will throw Monday, Aug. 7 for a chance to become a world champion.
DeAnna Price, a 2016 SIU alumna, automatically advanced to Monday's hammer throw finals after she surpassed the qualifying mark of 71.50m on her second attempt at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, England.
The 2016 Olympian and two-time NCAA Champion threw 238'-9" (72.78m) on her second attempt. Not only did it more than surpass the automatic qualifying mark of 71.50m, but it gave her the fifth-best mark of the day. She was the only American to advance in the event, as Gwen Berry, a 2011 SIU alumna, just missed advancing after she threw 226'-9" (69.12m) on her second attempt to finish 14th.Â
