Salukis finish fifth at Cardinal Classic

After two days of record breaking competition, the Women's Golf Team finished fifth at the Cardinal Classic in Muncie, Ind.
The Dawgs ended the tournament with an overall team score of 889, breaking the all-time low 54-hole record. The previous record of 892 was held by the 2006 team. The Salukis third round score of 303 is now ninth in best third round scores. Â
Head Coach Alexis O'Brien said, "It's great knowing we broke the record and we still have strokes out there."
There were 19 teams that attended the tournament, and the Salukis weren't far off from cracking the top three. They were three strokes off fourth place Toledo and six from third place Akron. The University of Indianapolis won the tournament with a score of 863.
Freshman Emilyee McGiles had the lowest score of the Salukis and finished tied for eighth place, just 10 strokes off first place, Freshman Moyea Russell and senior Hanna Netisingha finished tied for 20th just two strokes behind McGiles.
"My freshman really pulled their weight," O'Brien said. "The freshman led the way and we didn't have to count a high score. I am excited to see what the future holds. we can only improve from here."
Senior Alice Ho finished tied for 29th with an overall score of 225 and Sophomore Erica Kerr finished with a score of 239 and tied for 79th.
 Up next for the Dawgs is the APSU Intercollegiate on Oct. 2-3 in Clarksville Tenn. The team took first place last year at the tournament.
