Maier named MVC Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS — Southern Illinois cross country runner Josh Maier has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week following his win in the men's open race at the Nuttycombe Invitational, the conference announced Tuesday.
Maier clocked the fastest 8K in the Missouri Valley Conference this season to win the men's open race at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Sept. 28. The Alsip, Ill. native ran a personal-best 24:19.3 to best a field of 92 runners and win for the second time this season. His mark was nearly 22 seconds faster than his previous PR.
This marks the first time that Maier has claimed a MVC weekly honor and is the first time a Saluki has earned the award since Sept. 30, 2014.
The Salukis will return to action at the Bradley Pink Classic on Oct. 12.
