The Jesse Owens Award and Jackie Joyner-Kersee Award are USATF's highest accolades, presented annually since 1981 to the most outstanding U.S. male and female athletes. Winners are selected by a vote of the media in combination with online fan balloting, with media votes weighing 90 percent of the vote and fan voting 10 percent.
Price had an outstanding year in the circle. She set the American hammer throw record twice- first with a toss of 77.65m in Rathdrum, Idaho and regained her American record-holder crown after she unleashed the fourth-best toss all-time, 78.12m, to win the US outdoor title. It was the second national title of the year for the Moscow Mills, Mo. native, who threw a personal-best 24.51m to win the U.S. indoor weight throw title. She also won the hammer throw competition at the 2018 Continental Cup to help Team USA secure gold at the event and competed at the Athletics World Cup in London.
Courtney Frerichs, Shelby Houlihan, Des Linden, Maria Michta-Coffey and Ajee' Wilson join Price on the ballot.
