
Salukis host SEMO for Field Trip Day

SIU has won four-straight Field Trip Day games.
Wednesday's contest will air on ESPN+ and on Magic 95.1 FM, and marks the annual Field Trip Day game, in which students from around Southern Illinois are invited to attend, free of charge, with over 2,500 expected in attendance Wednesday. The Salukis have won four-straight Field Trip Day games, including last season's 60-50 win over Martin Methodist.
Series History
• The Salukis are 28-7 all-time against SEMO in a series that dates back to the 1961-62 season.
• SIU has won four-straight over the Redhawks, and five of its last six against its border rival.
• Last year, The Salukis held on for a 79-74 overtime victory over the Redhawks inside the Show Me Center.
Field Trip Day History
• The Salukis have won four-straight Field Trip Day games and average 1,655 fans.
• Southern's 2222 fans at last season's Field Trip game against Martin Methodist were the sixth-most at a Saluki women's basketball game in program history and were the most in attendance since 2008.

Last Time
- The Salukis went into the half with a nine-point lead after Brittney Patrick's coast-to-coast layup at the buzzer gave Southern a 34-25 lead.
- SEMO's Kaley Leyhue and Adrianna Murphy wouldn't go away, as the two combined for 30 second half points to eventually force overtime.
- SIU, thanks to lockdown defense in the overtime frame, held SEMO without a basket during the final three minutes of play to seal the win.
- The Salukis got contributions throughout their lineup, as all 11 Salukis that dressed played and 10 of 11 scored at least four points.
Current Salukis vs. the Redhawks
- Nicole Martin is Southern's active leader in points (21) and minutes (48) vs. the Redhawks. She scored 14 points and added six rebounds in last season's win and averages 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in two career meetings against SEMO.
- Abby Brockmeyer had 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and added seven rebounds.
- Makenzie Silvey scored 12 points and added three rebounds in last season's overtime win.

- Tesia Thompson was selected to the 2018-19 Preseason All-OVC Team.
- SEMO was picked to finish fifth in the OVC.
- The Redhawks lost to No. 5 Mississippi State, 88-53 to open the season and fell 85-79 at Bradley on Saturday, Nov. 10.
- Tesia Thompson led the Redhawks in points in both games, including 32 points and 12 rebounds at Bradley. It was Thompson's third career double-double.
- Adrianna Murphy poured in 20 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds vs. Bradley. Murphy had a team-high 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists last season against the Salukis.
SIU in Home Openers
- Southern has won four-straight home openers under head coach Cindy Stein and are 21-22 in home openers dating back to the 1975-76 season.
- The Salukis are 4-1 under Stein in home openers including last season's 84-72 win over UT Martin.
SIU vs. the OVC
• The Salukis went 2-2 last season against Ohio Valley Conference opponents and is 0-1 this year after the loss to UT Martin.
• In 182 lifetime meetings against OVC schools, the Salukis sport a .714 winning percentage (130-52).
Stein vs. the OVC
• Cindy Stein is 24-12 all-time against OVC schools during her 21 seasons as a head coach.
• Stein sports a .500 or better career record against five OVC schools, including SEMO, who she is 6-2 all-time against.
• Makenzie Silvey poured in a career-high 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting in SIU's season opener at UT Martin, which including a career-best six three-pointers and five assists.
• Silvey's 29 points were the most scored by a Saluki since Rishonda Napier netted 33 vs. Western Illinois on March 17, 2016.
• It was tied for the fourth-most points by an underclassmen in a single game in program history.

• Silvey's 29 points were the seventh-most of any NCAA DI player to open the 2018-19 season and the most by a player from the Missouri Valley Conference.
• Set or tied career-bests in points (29), assists (5), field goals made (11), field goals attempted (23), three-pointers made (6) and three pointers attempted (15).
• It marked the first time since Dec. 9, 2016 that SIU had two players with 20-plus points in a single game. Silvey had 29 points while Abby Brockmeyer added 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Double-Double
• Abby Brockmeyer posted her 6th career double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds at UT Martin.
• She was one of six from the Missouri Valley Conference to record a double-double in their season-opener. Indiana State's Regan Wentland (13 pts-13 rebs), Drake's Maddy Dean (13 pts-10 rebs) and Sara Rhine (11pts-10 rebs), UNI's Megan Maas (17 pts-10 rebs) and Illinois State's Simone Good (25 pts-12 rebs) also accomplished the feat.
Hot Start
• The Salukis shot 53.1% (34-of-64) from the floor against UT Martin which is the best they have shot since making 56.3% of their shots in a 64-45 win over Indiana State on Dec. 31, 2017.
• It marked the 15th time that SIU has made at least half of their attempts from the field in the Cindy Stein era. Southern is 10-5 under Stein when shooting at least 50%.
• It's the best SIU has shot in a season opener since the Salukis shot 58% vs. Saint Louis (11/14/08) to open the 2008-09 season.
Out and Running
• The Salukis scored 94 points in their season opener against UT Martin- their most in an opener since SIU put up 95 points against Murray Stae on Nov. 23, 1996.
• Southern was especially effective from inside the arc, as they shot 63.2% from 2-point range. According to herhoopsstats.com, SIU's two-point shooting percentage is currently the seventh-best nationally out of 334 teams.
• SIU's 94 points were its most in a game since scoring 104 vs. Brescia on Nov. 26, 2016.
20+ assists in season opener
• The Salukis dished out 23 assists on 34 field goals in the season opener at UT Martin, which marked the second-straight season in which Southern notched 20-plus assists in its opener.
• SIU's 23 assists were the most in a season opener since the Salukis dished out 29 in a 95-63 win over Murray State on Nov. 23, 1996.
• SIU had three players, Brittney Patrick (7), Makenzie Silvey (5) and Payton McCallister (5), each with at least five assists. It is the first time since Dec. 12, 1989 vs. Murray State that the Salukis have had three players with 5-plus assists.
• The 2018 recruiting class of Caitlin Link and Payton McCallister made their Saluki debuts at UT Martin.
•McCallister was one of four Salukis to score in double figures. The Columbia, Mo. native had 12 points, five assists and five rebounds.
• It marks the first-ever 10-5-5 stat line by a freshman in their debut in program history.
• McCallister is the 13th Saluki since 1983 to score in double figures in their debut.
• Link played just under three minutes and didn't take a shot in her debut.
