Volleyball head coach Kari Thompson's contract terminated

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University Director of Athletics Jerry Kill announced on Wednesday that volleyball head coach Kari Thompson's contract has been terminated.

In two seasons at SIU, Thompson compiled an 11-49 overall record. The Salukis recently completed a 5-26 season, including a 1-17 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference. In her first season at Southern in 2017, the Salukis were 6-23 overall and 5-13 in the MVC.

"We're very appreciative of her service to our University and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors," Kill said.

A search for Thompson's successor will begin immediately, according to Kill, and assistant coach Lea Hartigan will stay on to assist with the transition.
