
Swim and Dive set to host Missouri State

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Saluki swimming and diving hosts conference rival Missouri State on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Shea Natatorium. Events begin at 11 a.m. and admission to the meet is free.

"We are looking forward to the upcoming weekend as we compete against conference foe Missouri State. It provides us a chance to continue to test our approach as we continue to keep our eyes on a conference championship. We are looking for good opportunities against good competition."
SALUKI-BEAR HISTORY
The Salukis take on the Bears in-season for the eighth-straight year. Both the men and women debuted against the Missouri State in 1995 and have competed regularly ever since. The women lead the series 11-9, while the men trail 8-11.
On the women's side, they have lost four of the last six meetings. The four defeats have been by a narrow 48 combined points. Southern's last victory transpired during the 2015-16 season, topping the Bears, 121-110.
The pair of teams have also finished one-two in the past four Missouri Valley Conference championships.
The men have gone back-and-forth against Missouri State in the past 10 meetings, with each team netting five victories. The Salukis have had the edge as of late, winning two of the last three. Southern's two-meet winning streak against Missouri State ended last season, in a road loss.
CONFERENCE RANKINGS
Saluki swimmers climbed the Mid-American Conference and MVC leaderboards after delivering strong performances at the Mizzou Invite two weekends ago.
Ten SIU swimmers possess top-three conference marks. An additional five Salukis rank among the conference top-five in an event.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
The Missouri State men's and women's program are the defending conference champions in the MAC and MVC. Both were projected to finish atop of their conferences in the annual preseason coaches poll.
Most recently, the men's and women's team placed fifth in the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational.
Pawel Krawczyk is a Bear swimmer to watch for on the men's side. The freshman holds the fastest 500-free (4:21.66) and 1650-free (15:04.66) times in the MAC. His mark in the 1650-free ranks ninth in NCAA Division I.
Liberty Howell has been a force on women's side since her arrival last season. She was honored as the 2018 MVC Freshman of the Year and won six events at the 2018 MVC championships. Howell has swam the fastest 200-free (1:48.10), 500-free (4:49.10), 1000-free (9:56.25), and 1650-free (16:28.04) in the MVC this season.
