
Cole makes finals at Winter Nationals

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Saluki swimmers Chris Cole, Chris Phillips, and Samantha Parsons took part at the 2018 USA Winter Nationals, held from Wednesday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The meet involved top collegiate and club swimmers from around the nation.
Cole highlighted the outing at Winter Nationals, with a strong performance in the 400-meter medley.
In his lone event of the meet, Cole placed 21st overall (4:38.58) in the 400-medley preliminaries to move on to the C-final. The senior took 6th in the C-final, 22nd overall, with a time of 4:38.64.
Phillips swam in the 100-meter breast, 200-meter breast, and 200-meter medley over the course of three days. His best finish came in the 200-breast prelims (2:26.11), where he placed 36th of 52 swimmers.
Parsons competed in the 200-breast prelims (2:40.06), finishing 33rd of 58 swimmers. The junior was two seconds shy of a finals bid in her second-straight appearance at Winter Nationals.
The three swimmers will rejoin the Salukis program and next compete on Jan. 19 as Southern hosts Arkansas Little-Rock in a dual meet.
