JONESBORO, Ill. — The Wounded Warriors Project hosted a hunt and luncheon at Grassy Lake Hunting Club for a group of southern Illinois veterans on Thursday. Southern Illinois University Athletic Director Jerry Kill spoke, along with Illinois State Senator Paul Schimpf and Illinois State Representative Terri Bryant.
Before his remarks, Kill was presented with an American Flag that was flown above the building known as the "Taliban's Last Stand" at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, in support of the NATO lead Resolute Support mission on Sept. 25, 2018.
"This is the most thoughtful gift I have ever received," said Kill. "If there is anything I can personally ever do for you, all you have to do is give me a phone call."
Kill invited the group of veterans to his home and thanked them for their service.
"I care about people that do special things for other people," said Kill in his concluding remarks. "You all are the most special people that we have in our country. Thank you for your sacrifice."
