Salukis in fifth after day one of Battle at Boulder Creek

The SIU Women's Golf team ended the first two rounds of the Battle at the Boulder Creek in fifth place.

The Dawgs finished the opening 36-holes with a combined total of 623, 12 strokes off first place Toledo. At the end of the first round SIU was tied for fifth with Northern Illinois with a score of 316. NIU ended the day in second place.

Freshman Emilyee McGiles ended the day tied for third with Toledo's Pinyada Kuvanun. McGiles shot a combined 150, five over par, in the first round, and one over par in the second. She is also one stroke off second place Kamonwan Prasurtwong from Southern Utah and four off of first place Kiselya Plewe from Weber State.

McGIles 73 ties for her lowest score of the season.

Head Coach Alexis O'Brien said the scores for the Salukis were good with it being the first tournament after the winter break.

"We played pretty good, but each player had a couple blow up holes," O'Brien said. "If we eliminate the real high numbers, we should score lower. Our second-round score was pretty decent for being the second round of the year. We will build from there."

The Salukis will conclude the Battle at Boulder creek tomorrow. Tee-off of the last 18 holes begins at 9:00 a.m. central standard time.
