Southern wraps up road stretch at Belmont

The Southern Illinois baseball team travels to Bemont on Tuesday for a mid-week game. The game marks the end of a season-opening eight-game road stretch for SIU. After the Belmont game, Southern Illinois plays 13 of its next 17 games at Itchy Jones Stadium.

AROUND THE HORN

- SIU and Belmont have only played nine times. Belmont leads the all-time series, 5-4, after winning both mid-week matchups last year.Â
- Last year, Belmont beat SIU 18-17 in the game played in Nashville. The 35 combined runs were the fifth-most in SIU history. SIU trailed 18-9 after six innings but got within 18-17 in the ninth before falling.
- Brad Harrison, who will be SIU's starter in 2018, pitched in both games against Belmont last year, throwing a combined 2.1 innings of no-hit baseball.Â
- Harrison is making his second start of the season. He threw five solid innings at Austin Peay last week (4 H, 3 R) to earn his first collegiate victory.Â
- Harrison limited opponents to a .228 average last year, the third-best mark on the team (min. 20 innings). He limited Austin Peay to a .211 average last week in his first pitching appearance of 2018.Â
- Neither team has won three-straight games in the series. Belmont is going for its third-straight win after taking both games last year.
