Kern, Roberson named MVC Field Athletes of the Week

ST. LOUIS — Southern Illinois throwers Jared Kern and Alexis Roberson have been named Missouri Valley Conference Field Athletes of the Week following their performances this past weekend at the Don DeNoon Invitational, the conference announced Tuesday.
It is the second MVC weekly award for Kern this season and the seventh of his career while it marks the second time this season that Roberson has earned the honor.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Jared Kern | Sr. | Machesney Park, Ill.
Jared Kern won the shot put at the Don DeNoon Invitational over the weekend. Kern threw 62'-8.25" (19.10m) to win for the third time this season and was one of four Salukis to finish in the top-five of the event. He currently ranks first in the Missouri Valley Conference, and 13th nationally, in the event.
Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Alexis Roberson | So. | Jefferson City, Mo.
Roberson took third in the weight throw at the Don DeNoon Invitational Friday night. Roberson's threw 64'-11.50" (19.80m) on her final attempt to place third. It was the 15th time this season that Roberson has thrown 60-plus feet after coming into the season having never accomplished the feat. The Jefferson City, Mo. native ranks first in the Missouri Valley Conference, and 23rd nationally, in the event.
