Salukis record four top-10 school marks on day one of Music City Challenge

Tyjuana Eason broke her own school record in the 200m dash Friday night.
Tyjuana Eason broke her own school record in the 200m dash and was one of four Salukis to record a top-10 school mark on day one of the Music City Challenge Friday night in Nashville, Tenn.
Eason ran 24.31 to finish sixth in the 200m Friday. It marked the second-straight season in which the Kankakee, Ill. native has broken the school record the Music City Challenge, as Eason ran 24.50 a year ago to break Andrea Norris' then nine-year old school record in the event.
Shafiqua Maloney also improved upon her PR in the 200m, as she ran 24.55 to finish 10th Friday. Maloney's time is the second-fastest in program history.
Josh Maier clocked the seventh-fastest 5000m time in school history to place fourth Friday. Maier clocked a personal-best 5K time of 14:23.49, which moves him into seventh on SIU's all-time list. It also gives the Alsip, Ill. native his second top-10 school mark of the season, as Maier ran the eighth-fastest 3K in SIU history at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Jan. 13.
Ricky Hurley threw the weight a lifetime-best 64'-7.50" (19.69m) to finish sixth and move up to ninth on SIU's all-time weight throw list. Hurley joins Curtis Wideman as the only Saluki throwers with top-10 school marks in both the indoor shot and the weight throw. Michigan's Joseph Ellis won the event with a facility record toss of 76'-5.50" (23.30m) while Isaac Ingram took fourth with a mark of 69'-10.75" (21.30m).
Justine Paton tied for eighth in the women's high jump after she cleared a lifetime-best 5'-3.25" (1.61m) on her first attempt at the eight. Paton cleared the opening bar on her first attempt and was one of five in the field to do so. On the men's side, Caleb Vogel cleared 6'-6" (1.98m) on his second attempt to finish fourth. It marked the second time this season that the Du Quion, Ill. native has cleared 6'-6".
Shauniece O'Neal set a personal-best in the weight throw with her toss of 53'-8" (16.35m) to finish 24th. She was one of three Salukis to place in the top-25 in an event won by Saluki alumna Gwen Berry. Berry broke her own facility record with a winning throw of 82'-11" (25.27m), which is currently the best mark in the world in the event.
