The Saluki Women's Golf team will host the 24th annual Saluki Invitational at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Ill. on March 25-26. Â
Â
The Salukis are the returning champions from the 2017 Saluki Invitational and are currently ranked fourth in the MVC and No. 168 on Golfstat.com. Senior Hanna Netisingha is also ranked fourth for players in the MVC.
Â
The Dawgs will be going for their 10th win at the Saluki Invitational since 1995, but competition like Austin Peay, Fort Wayne and IUPUI, who won the tournament in 2015, all have players who are familiar with the course being from southern Illinois.
Â
The Invite is the only home tournament for the Salukis and allows the Dawgs the opportunity of home advantage in one of their final tournaments before the Missouri Valley Championship in April.Â
Â
"The Saluki Invitational is the one time our fans and followers get to see us in action," Head Coach Alexis O'Brien said. "It's the one course we know we can score low on because we do it every day. We know how to play safe and score on the tricky holes. It's literally a home course advantage and a home tournament can really set you for success."
Â
O'Brien said the heart of the lineup will come from the underclassmen at spots two through five, with Netisingha being the anchor at the one spot. Freshman Moyea Russell, sophomore Erica Kerr, freshman Emilyee McGiles, and sophomore Lili Klekner-Alt complete the lineup fo the Dawgs.
Â
Senior Alice Ho, junior Sun Jung, and freshman Rosemarie Bundy will all be competing as individuals. Â
Â
The Saluki Invitational will include a free admission and a silent auction that will benefit the golf program. Â Play will begin with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. on both Sunday and Monday. Live scoring can be found on golfstat.com.Â
