Russell named MVC Golfer of the Week

Freshman Moyea Russell was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

Russell earned her first collegiate win at the Saluki Invitational at one-stroke over par. Russell shot a 71, her lowest score yet, and 74 for a combined total of 145. Her first round score was the second lowest in tournament history and her two-round total was fourth lowest.

Russell helped Southern finish the tournament with a final score of 624, 48 over par, seven strokes behind tournament champions IUPUI. It was the team's sixth top-five and ninth top-10 finish this year.

This is Russell's first career Player of the Week. Freshman Emilyee McGiles and seniors Alice Ho and Hanna Netisingha also earned the honor this season.
