Salukis in fourth after day one of MVC Championship

After the first 18 holes, the SIU Women's Golf Team stands in fourth with an overall score of 312 at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

The Salukis are two strokes behind third place Loyola, three off of Indiana State, and seven behind first place Missouri State.  Â

Three of the five Salukis competing are currently in the top-10.  Seniors Hanna Netisingha (+5) and Alice Ho (+5) and freshman Moyea Russell (+5) are all tied for eighth sitting two strokes off of first place. Â

Head Coach Alexis O'Brien said the team is sitting in a good position to keep moving up over the next two days of competition. Â

"We are right where we need to be for tomorrow," O'Brien said.  "We aren't in the lead, but in striking distance to make a move tomorrow. If we can get within five going into the final round, we will win."

Round two of the MVC Championship will begin tomorrow with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m.  Live scoring can be found on golfstat.com
