ST. LOUIS — Southern Illinois heptathlete Madison Meyer and thrower Jared Kern have been named Missouri Valley Conference Field Athletes of the Week following their performances at the Tennessee Relays, the conference announced Tuesday.
This marks the fifth time that Kern has taken home the honor this season and the 10th time that he has done so in his career while it is the first time that Meyer has earned the award in her career.
Madison Meyer | So. | Carterville, Ill.
Meyer was the runner-up in the heptathlon at the Tennessee Relays after she scored a lifetime-best 5,118 points. Meyer came on strong late, as she finished top-3 in the competition's final four events, including a win in the 800m. The Carterville, Ill. native set personal-bests in the 100 hurdles, 200m and 800m en route to her runner-up performance. Meyer's 5118 points are currently the most in the Missouri Valley Conference and ranks her 29th in the NCAA in the event.
Jared Kern | Sr. | Machesney Park, Ill.
