Saluki Track and Field wins four event titles on day two of Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational

The Southern Illinois track and field team won four event titles and amassed 16 top-5 finishes, including seven top-3 performances on day two of the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational.
Warren Hazel (400m), Luke Horton (800m), Ricky Hurley (shot put) and the women's 4x100 relay team of Genesis Ewell, Shafiqua Maloney, Tyjuana Eason and Bri'Anna Branch all won their respective events on the final day at Louisville.
Hazel blistered the track with a season-best time of 46.75 to the win the 400m dash for the second time this outdoor season. Hazel's 400m time is the second-fastest in the Missouri Valley Conference and the 22nd-best time in NCAA West Region.
Horton turned in a season-best time at 1:49.99 to win the 800m run for the third time in four meets. The Harrisburg, Ill. native moved up 14 spots on the regional performance list with his sub-1:50 time Saturday and now ranks 42nd in the NCAA West Region.
Hurley set an outdoor PR in the shot put at 60'-3.25" (18.38m) to win the event. It marked the fifth-straight meet in which the Fox River Grove, Ill. native has improved upon his previous personal-best. He also took second in the discus with a lifetime-best toss of 184'-11" (56.37m). It was the fifth-best throw in school history and the four-time all-conference honoree now ranks 12th regionally in the event.
The Saluki women's 4x100 relay picked up a win after the quartet of Ewell, Maloney, Eason and Branch ran a season-best 44.94 to top a 12-team field that included relay squads from Minnesota, Illinois State, Louisville and DePaul. It is the second-fastest 4x100 relay time in school history and is the 25th-best time in the NCAA West Region.
The Salukis are back in action on Friday, May 4 at the Billy Hayes Invite, hosted by Indiana University.
