The SIU Women's Golf team will end its regular season at the Jan Weaver Invitational hosted by Murray State University. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky. on April 6-7.
Â
SIU will be facing familiar opponents from this season. The Salukis have faced seven of the other 13 teams competing at the tournament. Most recently SIU defeated Austin Peay, Lipscomb and Tennessee State at the Saluki Invitational where the Dawgs came in second. Austin Peay finished behind the Salukis in third, five strokes behind SIU.
Â
Southern won the tournament in 2014 and has players who are familiar with the course. seniors Hanna Netisingha, Alice Ho and junior Sun Jung have all played the course. Ho helped the Salukis to their 2014 win.
Â
"I'm taking all eight players to Murray because it's my final tournament where I will be able to coach everyone," O'Brien said. Â "This will be my last tournament for three players and I wanted everyone to be there."
Â
Netisingha will be in the top spot for Southern followed by freshman Moyea Russell, who just won her first collegiate tournament at the Saluki Invitational, at the second. Ho, sophomore Erica Kerr and freshman Emilyee McGiles finish the lineup for the Dawgs.Â
Â
Jung, sophomore Lili Klekner-Alt and freshman Rosemarie Bundy will all be competing as individuals for SIU.
Â
"With Alice's strong performance at the Saluki Invite she's back in the line-up," O'Brien said. "I'm hoping her and Hanna, the two seniors and captains will step up and go low. They are more than capable, and they just need to close out their Saluki careers starting now. They have only this event and MVC, so the time is now or never."
Â
The Jan Weaver Invitational starts with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. and 36-holes on Friday followed by the final 18 on Saturday. No live scoring will be available.Â
