Saluki Track and Field competes at Hilltopper Relays

SIU sent 17 student-athletes who tallied six top-3 finishes at the one-day meet.
The Southern Illinois track and field team sent 17 student-athletes to the Hilltopper Relays, hosted by Western Kentucky and amassed six top-3 finishes, including a pair of wins by Bri'Anna Branch (100m dash) and Megan Krolak (3000m steeplechase).Â
Branch won the 100m dash with a personal-best time of 11.85. It is the second-best time in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and the 10th-best time in school history. She also took third in the 200m dash Friday with a time of 24.65.Â
Krolak ran 11:23.02 to win the 3000m steeplechase in her season debut in the event. The Peru, Ill. native won her first event title of the season by more than 14 seconds.
A pair of Saluki freshmen also posted top-3 finishes. Kayleigh Conlon took third in both the discus and the shot put, while Kyle Zeinemann placed third in the pole vault. Zeinemann cleared 15'-3" (4.65m) on his second attempt, which currently ranks him third in the MVC.
The Salukis are next in action at the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. The two-day event gets underway on Friday, April 13.
