Wide receiver Darrell James named to MVFC preseason team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Southern Illinois wide receiver Darrell James was named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference preseason team, in a vote of league head coaches, media and sports information directors. The conference office unveiled the offensive selections on Tuesday and will announce the defense on Wednesday.
A fifth-year senior from Fort Worth, Texas, James led SIU with 47 catches, 773 yards and eight touchdowns in 2017. He was an honorable mention All-MVFC selection. For his career, James ranks sixth in school history in receiving yardage (1,600) and needs three more catches to reach the 100-reception milestone.
James enters the 2018 season with a streak of at least one catch in 17-straight games. During his breakout 2017 campaign, he had five TD catches in the first three games, including two at Memphis. He also recorded career highs in catches with seven against both Northern Iowa and Indiana State.
