Cross Country to host Saluki Student 2K race

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois cross country program will host the first-ever Saluki Student 2K on Friday, August 31 at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex.
The two-kilometer race, which is roughly 1.24 miles, is open to all SIU students and free of charge. Registration will take place 30 minutes prior to the race and will begin at 7:15 p.m. The race gets underway at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field complex at 7:45 p.m. Saluki track and field coaches will be on-site to offer training tips and answer questions for those interested in participating in collegiate athletics.
The race will follow Southern's home cross country meet, the Saluki Invite. At least five teams will run SIU's cross country course, which is located next to Itchy Jones Stadium and is just west of the Lew Hartzog Track and Field complex. The men's race begins at 5:30 p.m., while the women's race starts at 6:15 p.m. in what will be SIU's first home cross country meet since 2014.
