Patience Brown earned a spot on the A-State Invitational All-Tournament team.
The Southern Illinois University volleyball team dropped it's final non-conference match of the 2018 season to Central Arkansas, 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 20-25, 14-25). Patience Brown was named to the A-State Invitational All-Tournament team after she led the Salukis with a .379 hitting percentage and averaged 2.67 kills/set and .83 blocks/set in SIU's three matches over the weekend.
Inside the match
• The Salukis rolled to a 25-18 win in the first set. SIU broke a 15-all tie with five-straight points. The Sugar Bears got to within three, 21-18, but the Salukis closed with four-straight points to seal the victory. Southern hit .312 in the set and held Central Arkansas to a .075 hitting percentage.Â
• The Sugar Bears returned the favor in the second set with five-straight points to break a 6-all tie. Southern got to within three on back-to-back kills by Jill Kavalauskas, 13-10, but Central Arkansas ran off a 5-0 run to open up an eight point lead that it never relinquished.Â
• The two sides traded points throughout the beginning of the third set, with the Sugar Bears taking the first lead of more than a point with a 4-0 spurt to open a 13-10 advantage. That was as close as Southern could get though as Central Arkansas maintained at least a four-point lead for the remainder of the frame.
• The Sugar Bears hit .278 and held Southern to a -.023 hitting percentage in the fourth set. Southern trailed by just one early, 9-8, but a 7-1 run by Central Arkansas gave the Sugar Bears a lead that proved insurmountable.Â
