CARBONDALE, Ill. — Saluki Row is Southern Illinois University's tailgating area for all home football games, including Saturday's Family Weekend game versus South Dakota. Located on the grass practice football fields south of Saluki Stadium, Saluki Row provides a free and inclusive way for fans and patrons of all ages to mingle and enjoy the football gameday atmosphere.
"It has really evolved into a family friendly environment," said Bryce Williams, director of group sales and Saluki Row. "It's a place where all of our fans and alumni can come together to enjoy the excitement that surrounds college football."
Inside Saluki Row, you can find the official SIU tailgate tent and a variety of SIU's corporate partners. These partners provide complimentary food for everyone. Pizza, wings and frozen custard are just a few of the items that have been served to patrons at no cost.
"Since Saluki Row moved to the South Side of the Stadium we have seen a surge of fans make their way to our Coors Light tailgate zone to participate in the festivities provided by our radio and corporate partners," said Saluki Sports Properties General Manager Jon Ihrig. "From sampling pizza and wings, to ice cream and sweet tea, and even enjoying a cold beer while listening to our Tailgate Talk Show, fans are given a free destination for fun leading up to the game. Our partners could not be happier with the traffic that has come from the move that took place three years ago, and we are grateful for their contributions to the Tailgate Experience."
Saluki Row has undergone numerous improvements over the years. One of the biggest changes is a reduction in beer prices. Beer at Saluki Row and Saluki Stadium has been reduced from $6 per beer to $3.50 this season. Also new to Saluki Row is the addition of 103.5 ESPN's pregame show - presented by River Radio - for fans to learn about the team and what to expect in the upcoming game. Children will continue to enjoy special activities in Brown Dawg's Kids Club zone.
"Brown Dawg's Kids Club provides a one of a kind experience for its members, from running through the tunnel before football games to lining the tunnel at basketball," said Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing Marissa Poppe. "We even select one lucky member each game to be the Kids Club Captain of the Game. It's exciting to see the kids' faces light up as they are running across the field or high-fiving a student-athlete. The kids club is free so take advantage of this unique opportunity."
"Saluki Row creates a great atmosphere at our games and has been a part of the tradition here for a long time," said Athletic Director Jerry Kill, who coached the Salukis from 2001-07. "We're trying to make it a great experience for everyone to enjoy. We want to get as many people out there as we can because that's what college football is all about."
