Hannah Becker named MVC Player of the Week

Becker is the first Saluki to earn the MVC weekly honor since 2015.
ST. LOUIS — Southern Illinois University redshirt sophomore outside hitter Hannah Becker has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Becker had a phenomenal week to help lead the Salukis to a 2-1 record. The redshirt sophomore hit an astounding .408 and averaged a robust 4.50 kills per set. She took 120 swings and committed just five attack errors during a week that she put down 15-plus kills in all three of SIU's matches. In doing so, she became the first Saluki to put down 15-plus kills in three-straight matches since Andrea Estrada did so from Oct. 3-10, 2015.
In SIU's win over Missouri State, Becker hit .362 with 19 kills. In Southern's victory over Illinois State, she hit .462 with 20 kills to become the first Saluki since Taylor Pippen did so in 2015 to hit above .450 with 20-plus kills. The following night against Bradley, Becker hit .412 with 15 kills and just one error.
Becker is the first Saluki to be named the MVC Player of the Week since Estrada did so on Nov. 16, 2015. It marks just the sixth time in the last 15 years that a Saluki has taken home POW honors, and the 27th time in program history dating back to 1983.
The Salukis are back in action on Friday, Nov. 1 when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on the first-place Northern Iowa Panthers. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
