RALEIGH, N.C. — The Southern Illinois men's golf program sits in ninth place after Day One of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Pool Golf Course. Campell leads the 15-team field at 18-under par heading into the final round.

Southern shot 6-over par (297-285=582) on Day One and had a 12-stroke improvement from the first to the second round. SIU was in eighth place after 18 holes, but dropped one spot in the team standings to ninth by the end of 36 holes despite the better play.

Freshman Riley Klingelberg led the Salukis, as he shot 3-under par. He ended the day tied for 10th place out of 87 golfers. Klingelberg was in the middle of the pack at 2-over after round one, but fired a 68 (-3) in round two to propel in the standings. It was his second round in the 60's of the season and his second-best round as a Saluki.

Frankie Thomas and Matthis Besard are also on the top half of the standings heading into tomorrow. Thomas had a strong final 18 holes, similar to teammate Klingelberg The senior opened play with a 74 (+2), but shot 1 under-par (71) in round two to finish the day at a tie for 30th. Besard is tied for 35th, as he carded 72 (E) in round one and 74 (+2) in round two.

The Salukis' six golfers will be back in action tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. for the final round of the Intercollegiate. Live stats can be found here.
